Master Your Ability to Choose PEACE and Non-Violence in Any Situation

A Taste of Kingian Nonviolence May 16    -    Mark Klym

Based on the philosophy and strategies of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Kingian Nonviolence is a tool for personal and social change, a new lens to view conflict through and a dynamic means to create a more harmonious society.  Nonviolence shines as a third force that rises above the two extremes of violence and passivity.

In recent history, nonviolence has come to be recognized as a significant alternative for groups, communities, and whole societies to effectively deal with the conditions they face locally, nationally, and internationally.

Dr. King was impressed by the capacity of a small group committed to nonviolence to create positive change when faced by large problems. His philosophy is to create win-win situations rather than to defeat supposed enemies.

Mindfulness and the Practice of Peace
May 23     -    Marvin Brown
Often we hear people say that they want to learn to live in the present moment.  The actuality is that we are always living in the present moment because there is no other time that we can be in.  A more accurate phase is to learn to be aware of the present moment. Mindfulness practice is such a training and once we become aware of the present moment and able to see everything that is going on, we are able to make choices.  Peace is one of those choices.  During this time we will begin to learn how to become aware of the present through something that we are doing all day long.  We will then learn how to become the authors of Peace in our lives and claim power over our own experience.

About Rev. Marvin Brown:

Reverend Marvin Brown is uniquely qualified to blend together Eastern philosophy with Western thought.  His eclectic background also includes membership and training at Unity, Religious Science and Episcopal churches.

Marvin is ordained in the Order of Interbeing, (Tiep Hien), founded by Ven. Thich Nhat Hanh, a Buddhist Order. He is also ordained an inter-denominational minister through the International Council of Community Churches and a New Thought minister through the Community Church of New Thought.

Marvin teaches mindfulness practice and classes on New Thought, metaphysics, mysticism and the history of religion and churches. Students report that his clear, simple and diverse way of explaining things make it easy to understand and apply.
